Kayak the Waiuku Estuary from the historic Kentish Hotel to the Waitangi Falls (2.5km) have a picnic lunch, jump off the falls with the local kids, then leisurely kayak back via the Waiuku Sandspit beach (if time and tide allow you may extend your trip at no extra cost cruising around the sheltered inlets. You finish alongside the Waiuku Museum opposite our River Lane base. You begin with basic paddle instruction and safety rules (everyone wears a buoyancy vest) and set off on your journey.

Take your own lunch or snacks and a drink bottle and a camera (in a plastic bag). You should see a range of local birdlife (for example - heron, kingfisher, South Island pied oyster catcher, fantail, welcome swallow and ducks.

The Kentish Hotel (New Zealands oldest continuous license built 1852) has lunches and a garden bar. There are a number of good cafes a short distance from our base.WEKA

The estuary is tidal with no rapids and you will need to allow 2 hrs on the water for your trip.
